Fall for FRAXEL

FRAXEL—you have probably heard of it, but do you know what it is? Fraxel is a laser resurfacing treatment that will leave your skin glowing for the holiday season.

FALL in Love with your Legs!

As the Summer season ends and you put away your shorts and skirts and unpack your leggings and pants, it’s the perfect time to focus on your LEGS and take care of those annoying varicose and spider veins.

Varicose veins are large, raised, swollen blood vessels that usually develop in the legs. These veins twist and turn and can be seen through the skin. Spider veins are red, purple and blue vessels that are smaller in size. They also twist and turn and can be seen through the skin as well. Sometimes, these types of veins ache, swell, burn and can also cause night cramps.

At Coastal Skin Surgery & Dermatology, we use Sclerotherapy to treat this condition. During this procedure, a solution is injected directly into the vein. This solution causes the vein to scar and collapse, forcing blood to reroute through healthier veins. The collapsed vessel is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades. Patients usually see results within a few weeks to a month. Veins that disappear usually do not reappear. Larger veins may require more than one treatment.

There is minimal preparation and downtime for Sclerotherapy. Avoid shaving or applying lotion to your legs a day before the procedure. Patients are able to walk around soon after the process is complete and can usually return to normal activities the same day. It is recommended that strenuous exercise is avoided and compression socks are worn for two weeks.
