Coastal Skin Surgery and Dermatology is proud to announce Dr. Cather McKay, a board-certified dermatologist specializing in medical, cosmetic and surgical dermatology for adults and children has joined the practice!

Cather McKay, M.D., FAAD is familiar with the Gulf Coast, born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, now calls the Emerald Coast home. Dr. McKay attended Vanderbilt University where she double majored in Molecular and Cellular Biology and Spanish. Following graduation, she spent time volunteering in a medical clinic in rural Guatemala. She went on to complete medical school at the University of Alabama School of Medicine (UAB), followed by an internship in internal medicine and dermatology residency at Tulane University.

Dr. McKay will be joining Coastal Skin Surgery and Dermatology in September of 2020 and will work in the Fort Walton Beach location. Dr. McKay spent years away for her education and is happy to come to the Gulf Coast area along with her husband Jack and dog Taco. She enjoys establishing long-term patient relationships to meet all skin care needs. She specializes in medical, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology, for children and adults.

The office staff are also pleasant when you come in and greet you, which makes you feel at ease. There has never been more than a 5 minute wait, they run right on time each time I’ve gone in. “Wow! What an OUTSTANDING Doctor.”

Dr. Brittain Kulow is exceptional in her treatment of me. She has been treating both my wife and I for so long we can’t remember how we came to know of Dr. Kulow. She always greets us with a huge smile as if we are family that she just saw yesterday. She places you at ease while she checks you over and if God forbid she finds something to be removed she explains what she is going to do etc. Luckily not much of anything phases me. And her staff is incredible they go out of their way to ensure you are comfortable. They get back to you quickly with the results of your biopsy depending on how “YOU” determined how you wanted to receive results / information. My Technician on my recent visit was fantastic, she was professional, courteous, kind, yet friendly and laughed at my silly jokes to stay calm. What I haven’t told you is I’m a recent USAF veteran rated 100% disabled, I’ve just had my 21st major surgery to try and repair my back for the 5th time, I’ve been told I would not walk three times, and yet I still prove them wrong, I have a growth on my brain that causes memory loss etc. the list goes on. Meet Karoline Dempsey, PA-C | Coastal Skin Surgery & Dermatology

Meet Karoline Dempsey, MPAS, PA-C, a Board Certified Physician Assistant at Coastal Skin Surgery & Dermatology! A graduate of the Medical College of Georgia, Karoline continued her education and received her Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Deciding to specialize in dermatology, she assists in a variety of Mohs Micrographic Surgeries, medical dermatological treatments and diagnoses.

As a Physician Assistant, Karoline is trained to perform skin examinations and to diagnose and manage patients with a variety of skin conditions as well as conduct procedures including cryotherapy, shave and punch biopsies, cosmetic dermatology and removal of superficial skin cancers and benign skin lesions.

Karoline enjoys spending time with her husband, Ted, and their four children, traveling, entertaining friends and live music. She is very active in supporting military families and spouses through volunteering and community outreach.

Darla Parker, a native of Crestview, FL has been a Physician Assistant in dermatology since 2009.

Darla received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine from Florida
State University, where she was a trainer on the football and women’s basketball team. After
graduating from FSU, Darla attended the University of South Alabama where she obtained her

A. Annually unless the patient has had a previous skin cancer, then it is suggested that they be seen more frequently.

Q. What sunscreen should patients use?

A. It is recommended to use a sunscreen that includes titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for optimal protection.

Q. What to look for in moles of concern?

A. When conducting a self-skin exam, always look for the most common visual signs or symptoms of abnormalities in moles: ABCDE- Asymmetry, Borders, Colors, Diameter, and Evolving.

Darla Parker, a native of Crestview, FL has been a Physician Assistant in dermatology since 2009.

Darla is currently a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and she values
her opportunity to help patients achieve the best quality of life possible. High points of Darla’s
career include serving on the Disney medical team, and conducting skin exams and sun
exposure education for the LPGA, Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo, and Providence Hospital in
Mobile, AL. Darla’s interests in dermatology include, but are not limited to, skin cancer
treatment and prevention, as well as, the treatment of psoriasis and acne. In Darla’s free time,
she enjoys yoga, jogging, and traveling with her fiancé.
