Nail Fungus Treatment
Nail fungus is also known as onychomycosis. It affects about 12% of all Americans, can run in families and is more common in toenails than in fingernails.
Nails that are infected by fungus can appear thickened, discolored and may separate from the nail bed. Treatment of fungal infections usually requires oral 2-4 months of oral antifungal medicines. Improvement is very gradual due to the slow regrowth of nails. Topical options are available for select cases, but are not as reliable and make take longer to be effective.
