Many benign skin growths, as well as skin cancers, can be effectively treated with surgical excision. Excisions are performed in the office under the safety of local anesthesia.
Once the lesion has been surgically excised, the skin may be closed with sutures or it may be allowed to heal in by itself. Before any surgery is performed, the dermatologist or provider will review your medical background for safety and will discuss the different treatment and closure options with you. Upon the completion of the surgery, you will receive both written and verbal instructions and will most likely be scheduled to return for a follow-up visit in one to two weeks.
